Opening the SANTA program and entering pupils names
To load the SANTA program either double click the SANTA icon which will be on your desktop after installation OR If you are a Primary Target Tracker user you can use the TT Launcher and load from the list on the right of the TT Launcher or single click the SANTA button if you have moved SANTA onto one of the 4 buttons.
When you load a SANTA application for the first time, a warning about macros will appear. This is normal and you should tick the Trust macros from this publisher box and then click the button Enable macros . (This warning is a security feature of Windows and Office).
The Paper Selector allows you to choose which subject, which year and which paper you wish to work on.
You can then choose to load either a new file or one you have already saved previously.
A message box will display reminding users that for Reading, Maths and Science papers it is errors and omissions that are recorded not scores, but for Writing papers correct answers are recorded.
Each cell will have a drop down box; an error is recorded as a 1, 2 or 3 depending on how many parts of the question were incorrectly answered. Omissions are recorded with an X. Click OK to close the message box.
To start using the chosen paper the children must first be imported into the paper. This can be done in 3 ways.
1. Pupils can be added manually by simply typing their Surname, First name and gender into the appropriate cells. Class names can also be entered, useful if you have more than one class. There is a Custom column that can be used for information such as Numeracy or Literacy groups if required.
2. Pupils can be added from an appropriate Primary Target Tracker file using File>Import Data>Tracker Data File and navigating to your chosen PTT file. This method ensures that you can export the finished test results back into the appropriate test columns of the original PTT file. The results will be in thirds of a level and use the current thresholds from the QCA
3. Pupils can be imported from an Excel spreadsheet. The columns must be set up as follows – Column A UPN, Column B DOB, Column C Forename, Column D Surname, Column E Gender, Column F Class, Column G Custom
Only the Forename, Surname and Gender columns must have data . UPN, DoB, Class and Custom can be left empty.
However, the Column Headers must be present
To load the Excel file into SANTA go to File >Import Data >Excel Workbook and navigate to your chosen Excel file.
