Making Primary Target Tracker files using data from a School Management System

To make new Primary Target Tracker year group files you will first need to create a Pupil Detail report from your school's Management Information System (MIS).

See the relevant Support Articles on data extraction for your particular MIS for help with this aspect

The pupil detail report created then has to be converted into PTT files using the Primary Data Converter.

Double click on the Primary Data Converter from your TT Launcher

From the Load Data File window browse to the location of your pupil detail report and double click on it

Click on the template in the box on the left that corresponds with your school MIS

Enter in your own school LA/DfE numbers and school name

Choose the year group/s that you wish to make PTT files for

Click on Convert File

If no errors are found the software will now give you the chance to choose where you want to save your new PTT year group files. (Beware of overwriting any existing PTT files when you choose the location) Browse to where you wish to save these files then click on the Save button. You do not need to name the files. The software will name each file by the Reception year of the group followed by the school year the group are currently in e.g. 0809_Yr1 etc.

When the data conversion has finished an information box will tell you how many files have been created and how many pupils have been processed – click Finish.

The newly created files can now be loaded into PTT
